Asaf Rashid

A practice built on trust, precision, and advocacy.

Asaf Rashid Law is a criminal defence focused practice, also covering areas of immigration, prison, and human rights law. Whether you have been criminally charged, are trying to gain or keep your permanent residency, fighting for your liberties while incarcerated, or being treated like you are a lesser human being, you need a strong advocate who understands the system and knows how to fight inside it.

I take my role and your rights very seriously. I also understand the importance of access to justice and that income should not limit your legal defence. That is why I take on a high volume of legal aid certificates where they are available.

A record of fighting, and winning

The majority of my work in is in criminal law, where I have obtained many positive results for clients.

Most cases where clients seek to proceed to trial have resulted in charges either being dismissed or withdrawn pre-trial, the Crown entering a stay of proceedings, findings of not guilty at trial, or the beating of the most serious charges. These include cases involving serious charges of impaired driving, aggravated assault, fraud, firearms offences and drug charges.

Where cases proceed to sentencing, I have obtained many results of avoiding jail time or criminal records for clients who face particular risks to mental health or loss of immigration status, or reduced jail time from what the prosecution was seeking for clients with long records.

In immigration law, I have succeeded in obtaining visas, PR through spousal sponsorships, forcing positive PR decisions after unreasonable delays, convincing the Department of Justice to allow redeterminations after Federal Court applications for rejected visas, and success in challenging potential inadmissibility.
